I’ve always been a fan of cycling to work. For me it’s by far the most efficient way to get around Sydney. So when National Ride to Work Day came around this year, I leaped on the chance to show other Googlers just how convenient it is.
Ride to Work Day is an annual national initiative that hopes to promote cycling as an alternative form of transport. Luckily here at Google, we’re a fan of alternative transport and we’ve got many things to make cycle commuting more convenient: lockers, showers and somewhere to lock our bikes. We even have our own bikes for Googlers to borrow and use to get into the city for meetings and errands.
So getting Aussie Googlers to take part in the Ride to Work Day wasn’t such a hard task. On October 12th, 70 Googlers rose to the challenge and pedaled their way into work. Each rider was made to feel like a rock star when they rolled into work and were greeted by their very own cheer squad complete with party poppers on their arrival. Couple that with a table full of pastries and fresh juice and you have the perfect reward for cycling to work.
In the end we won the award for the largest percentage of staff riding to work in NSW in workplaces with more than than 250 employees. Not bad for just getting into work!
